A shortage of LPG cylinders has created concern among residents in Dehradun, with people seen standing in long queues outside gas agencies and warehouses to obtain cylinders. Consumers say they are unable to book gas through mobile numbers, adding to the difficulties.
Reports suggest that disruptions linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran have indirectly affected supply chains, and the impact is now being felt in the city’s kitchens. On Wednesday, several LPG distribution points witnessed heavy crowds as consumers tried to secure cylinders.
At an Indian Oil Corporation Indane gas agency in the Naya Gaon area, people started queuing from early morning. Lines continued from around 8 AM until afternoon, and about 320 cylinders were distributed before the stock was exhausted. More than 60 consumers had to return without receiving a cylinder.
Similar situations were reported at other agencies across the city. Many residents said they had been trying to book cylinders for several days, but calls to the booking number were not connecting. This has forced many consumers to visit agencies directly to check the availability of cylinders.
Restaurants and Food Businesses Concerned –
While domestic LPG supply is still being managed to some extent, commercial establishments such as hotels, roadside eateries and restaurants are facing serious difficulties. The district has more than 19,000 commercial gas connections, and monthly consumption exceeds 40,000 cylinders.
Due to the shortage, small food vendors, dhaba operators and restaurant owners fear they may have to temporarily shut down their businesses if the supply situation does not improve soon.
Meanwhile, K. K. Agrawal said that LPG supply in the district is continuing normally and consumers should book cylinders and wait for home delivery. He added that authorities are also keeping a strict watch on possible black marketing, and strict legal action will be taken if anyone is found involved in illegal sale of gas cylinders.
