Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Assam, on Saturday. Equipped with modern technology and advanced training facilities, the academy aims to become one of India’s top police training institutions. Shah also laid the foundation stone for the academy’s residential complex and paid tribute to the legendary Assamese warrior Lachit Borphukan during his address.
During his speech, Amit Shah honored the legacy of Maa Kamakhya and Srimanta Sankardeva. He expressed confidence that with a total investment of ₹1,024 crore, the academy will emerge as India’s finest police training center within the next five years.
Shah highlighted that earlier, Assam police personnel had to undergo training in other states. However, with this new facility, over 2,000 police personnel from Manipur and Goa are already receiving training here. He praised the Assam government for this initiative.
The Home Minister also emphasized the importance of Lachit Borphukan’s legacy, stating that his story has now been translated into 23 Indian languages and preserved in libraries across the country. Additionally, the Assam government has integrated Borphukan’s history into the school curriculum of eight states.
Amit Shah further spoke about the Modi government’s efforts to end insurgency in Assam, resolve border disputes, and boost investment in the state. He announced that new investments worth ₹8 lakh crore would generate significant employment opportunities for the youth.
Additionally, Shah revealed that over the past decade, the Modi government has allocated ₹4.95 lakh crore for Assam—four times more than previous administrations. He also criticized the Congress party for allegedly hindering Assam’s development.
