Key London Meeting Today on Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

Efforts to broker a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine have gained momentum, with a crucial meeting scheduled in London today. Diplomats and defense chiefs from the UK, US, European nations, and Ukraine will deliberate on possible ceasefire terms and long-term peace frameworks as the war stretches into its fourth year.

UK Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed that foreign ministers and national security advisors will explore viable ceasefire formats and mechanisms to ensure lasting peace. Former US President Donald Trump’s envoy, Keith Kellogg, will also attend the meeting, signaling bipartisan US interest in the peace process.

However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be absent due to scheduling conflicts. British officials have described the meeting as a critical juncture in diplomatic efforts to end the prolonged conflict.

Meanwhile, Trump recently warned that if both sides fail to show genuine interest in peace, the US may step back from active involvement. Kremlin officials noted that American envoy Steve Witkoff might visit Moscow again later this week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reiterated that his delegation will only engage in discussions involving unconditional or partial ceasefire terms. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded by cautioning against imposing strict timelines, emphasizing the complexity of the situation.
