CM Dhami announces bill for Loktantra Senani welfare

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that the Uttarakhand government will introduce a bill for the welfare of Loktantra Senanis (Democracy Fighters) during the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Legislative Assembly. He also declared that the monthly honorarium for Loktantra Senanis will be increased, and the process to avail it will be simplified.

The Chief Minister made this announcement while interacting with Emergency-era detainees under MISA and DIR at the Mukhyasevak Sadan, his official residence, on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency declared on 25 June 1975. As part of the “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” (Constitution Killing Day), CM Dhami honoured and felicitated the Loktantra Senanis and their families.

He directed officials to appoint a nodal officer at the secretariat level to address the issues of Loktantra Senanis promptly. He also instructed the concerned secretary to ensure immediate issuance of certificates to those recognised as democracy fighters.

CM Dhami emphasized that the Emergency was one of the darkest chapters in India’s democratic history, calling it an attempt to crush the soul of the Constitution. He recalled the sacrifices made by Jayaprakash Narayan, Nanaji Deshmukh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and other leaders who inspired the youth even from behind bars.

He added that Uttarakhand will become a model for the country with such welfare measures. The state will continue to organise annual events to honour the contributions of democracy fighters and educate future generations about their role in safeguarding democracy.

Former Governor and CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, and senior Loktantra Senanis including Krishna Kumar Agrawal and Prem Badakoti were present on the occasion.
