Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday inaugurated the Kalash Vandan Maha Rally organised to mark the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Ravidas at CMD Inter College in Chudiyala village of Bhagwanpur, Roorkee. The Chief Minister attended the programme as the chief guest and paid floral tributes to Sant Ravidas.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by floral tributes to the portrait of Sant Ravidas. Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said the teachings and ideals of Sant Shiromani Ravidas continue to be highly relevant in modern society and inspire people towards equality, harmony and social justice.
The Chief Minister informed the audience that holy water had been brought from Kashi in a ceremonial kalash under the leadership of a Cabinet Minister. He said these kalash would be distributed to district presidents across the state as part of the commemorative programme.
Describing Bhagwanpur as a historically sacred land, CM Dhami said it was a matter of pride for him to participate in the celebrations of Sant Ravidas’ 650th birth anniversary. He urged people to eliminate discrimination and caste-based divisions, stating that true tribute to Sant Ravidas lies in living with unity and social harmony.
The Chief Minister also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has carried forward the message of social harmony across the country and has given due respect to saints and their contributions to society.
Highlighting the state’s welfare initiatives, CM Dhami said the Uttarakhand government is committed to following the path shown by Sant Ravidas by ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person in society.
