Hotels and restaurants in Dehradun are facing growing operational difficulties due to the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders. With supplies disrupted, many establishments have started preparing to shift their kitchens to induction cooktops to continue operations.
According to hotel and restaurant operators, commercial cylinders are currently not being supplied, and the existing stock is rapidly running out. If the situation continues for long, several businesses fear they may struggle to keep their kitchens running.
The disruption in supply is being linked to the impact of the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which has affected LPG distribution chains. Authorities have reportedly prioritised domestic gas supply, while the distribution of commercial cylinders has been restricted for the time being.
Due to the shortage, several hotel and restaurant owners have already ordered induction cooktops, while others are preparing to adopt the alternative cooking method if the situation persists.
Sanjay Gupta said that commercial cylinder supply has completely stopped and the available stock is gradually decreasing. He added that if the situation continues, restaurants will have to rely on induction cooktops to keep their kitchens operational.
Vijay Tandon said that hotels are currently managing operations with the available stock, but it will not last for long. He stressed that commercial LPG supply should resume soon to prevent operational disruptions in the hospitality sector.
Restaurant operators warn that if the shortage continues, it could directly affect daily operations and force many establishments to scale down or temporarily suspend services.
