Khelo India Winter Games 2025 Begin in Ladakh

The Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2025 season will kick off in Ladakh on Thursday. Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will inaugurate the prestigious event at the Nawang Dorjey Stobdan Sports Complex. Nineteen teams will compete in ice hockey and ice skating events over five days.

Event Highlights

  • Himachal Pradesh is fielding the largest contingent with 78 players and staff.
  • A total of 594 participants, including 428 athletes, will compete in the Ladakh segment.
  • The second phase, featuring skiing and other snow sports, will be held from February 22-25 in Jammu & Kashmir.

Venue and Schedule

  • Short and long-form skating will take place at NDS and Gupuk Lake.
  • Ice hockey matches will be held at NDS and the Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre.
  • Technical operations will be managed by the Sports Authority of India and national sports federations.

Grand Opening Ceremony

  • The 594 participants will be welcomed in Ladakhi traditional style.
  • Dignitaries, including Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brigadier Dr. B.D. Mishra, will attend the event.

The games and the opening ceremony will be broadcast live on Doordarshan Sports, continuing through January 27.
