Devprayag News: Youth Working With Rail Project Found Dead in Hotel Room in Devprayag

The body of a young man working with the executing agency of the Rishikesh–Karnprayag rail project was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hotel room in Devprayag. The incident took place at a hotel located on Dak Bungalow–Dharampur Road, where the company had arranged accommodation for its staff.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Gautam Singh, a resident of Kishanpur village in Uttarkashi district. He was employed as an assistant cook with Navayuga Company, which is engaged in the construction work of the Rishikesh–Karnprayag railway line. Gautam had been staying in the same hotel that was taken on rent by the company for its workers.

According to Devprayag police station in-charge Prashant Bahuguna, information about the incident was received on Wednesday evening from Navayuga Company manager C. Shripal Singh. He informed the police that Gautam Singh was found hanging from a fan in the gym area of the building. After receiving the information, SSI Arun Tyagi reached the spot along with the police team and brought the body down.

Police officials stated that Gautam Singh had been working with the company for the past two years. He had recently returned to Devprayag after spending time on leave at his home. Family members later informed the police that Gautam’s grandmother had passed away, due to which he had taken a 17-day leave. The thirteenth-day ritual related to her death was scheduled for Thursday.

The deceased is survived by his elder brother and a sister. After being informed, family members from Uttarkashi reached Devprayag. The police have taken the body into custody and initiated further legal formalities. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and reasons behind the incident.
