Chamoli: Preparations for the municipal body general elections have commenced in the district. District Magistrate and District Election Officer, Sandeep Tiwari, convened a meeting with all nodal officers on Saturday at the Collectorate auditorium to discuss arrangements for the elections. He instructed that all election-related preparations must be completed on time.
The District Magistrate emphasized that elections are a critical process, and all nodal officers must diligently fulfill their responsibilities without any negligence. He directed the executive officers of all municipal bodies to personally inspect the polling stations to ensure the availability of basic amenities such as electricity, water, and toilets. Any polling stations requiring repairs should be promptly reported.

Key aspects like data entry of polling and counting personnel, training schedules, route charts, transportation, provision of writing materials, nomination and counting arrangements, the establishment of an election control room, and the setup of strong rooms should be ensured without delay. Additionally, the District Magistrate emphasized the need to arrange barricading, lighting, tents, and other essential facilities at polling stations, counting centers, and strong rooms in accordance with the commission’s guidelines. He also stressed the importance of robust arrangements for peace, security, and medical facilities during the elections.
Additional District Magistrate informed that the district includes 10 municipal bodies comprising 4 municipal councils and 6 town panchayats, including the newly formed Nagar Panchayat at Nandannagar (Ghat). These municipal bodies are divided into 64 wards with a total of 63 polling centers and 80 polling stations. There are 53,349 registered voters across these areas, and voter lists have already been printed as per the Election Commission’s guidelines. The data entry work for polling personnel has also commenced.
The meeting was attended by Chief Development Officer Nandan Kumar, Additional District Magistrate Vivek Prakash, Project Director Anand Singh, and all nodal and assistant nodal officers appointed for the municipal elections.
