To ensure a safe and organized Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand Transport Department has made it mandatory for commercial vehicles carrying 13 or more passengers to obtain a Green Card. The process of issuing Green Cards began on Friday, and so far, 15 applications have been received.
As per the department, vehicles registered in Uttarakhand will be issued Green Cards valid for the entire pilgrimage period, while those coming from other states will receive a card valid for 15 days only. Only vehicles inspected and approved by technical officials from the Transport Department will be eligible for the Green Card.
Transport Officer Rawat Singh Kataria stated that the initiative is being implemented on the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to enhance transportation safety during the yatra. To obtain the Green Card, vehicles must present a valid fitness certificate, insurance, pollution certificate, and permit documents. Additionally, drivers must be skilled in navigating hilly terrain.
