After Tariff Relief, China Urges U.S. to Fully Remove Retaliatory Duties

Following the Trump administration’s decision to grant tariff exemptions on several electronic products, China has urged the United States to take further steps by completely removing all retaliatory tariffs, signaling a move toward ending the prolonged trade war.

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce called on the U.S. to reconsider its trade policies and adopt a path of mutual respect and cooperation. While acknowledging the tariff relief on electronics, the spokesperson described it as a “small step” and stressed the need to assess its actual impact.

Recently, the U.S. had announced tariff exemptions for smartphones, laptops, and other tech equipment, a move that could prevent price hikes for consumers. These products are primarily sourced from China, South Korea, and Vietnam, and the earlier high tariffs had affected American companies and consumers alike.

Currently, the U.S. imposes tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports, while China has retaliated with tariffs as high as 125% on American goods. China has already filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization and continues to express willingness to engage in dialogue under equal terms.
