GST Savings Festival: PM Modi Appeals to Citizens and Traders to Promote Swadeshi Products

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through an open letter on the occasion of the “GST Savings Festival,” which began with the implementation of next-generation GST reforms on September 22. He said these reforms will benefit farmers, women, youth, the poor, the middle class, traders, small industries, and cottage industries.

Highlighting the reduced tax structure, Modi said most essential goods such as food, medicines, soap, toothpaste, and other household items will now be available at 0% or 5% GST. He added that insurance services and household products have also become cheaper under the revised tax rates. “Many traders have started displaying ‘Before and Now’ boards showing how products have become more affordable. These reforms simplify the system further and provide greater relief to small businesses and shopkeepers,” the PM noted.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the government’s efforts over the past 11 years, stating that more than 25 crore people have come out of poverty and a strong middle class has emerged. He said income tax exemptions worth over ₹12 lakh crore have been provided, and the new GST reforms are expected to save citizens around ₹2.5 lakh crore annually.

Calling for self-reliance, Modi urged people to adopt swadeshi products in their daily lives. “Every time you buy items made by our workers, artisans, and industries, you support families and create jobs for the youth,” he wrote. Appealing directly to traders, the PM requested them to sell and promote Made-in-India goods, adding, “Let us proudly say, this is swadeshi.”

Concluding his letter, the Prime Minister extended greetings for Navratri and the GST Savings Festival, wishing that citizens’ savings and aspirations continue to grow along with the festive joy.
