Kedarnath Dham is blanketed under a thick layer of snow, with up to five feet of snow accumulation across the region. The Gaurikund-Kedarnath pedestrian route is severely impacted, particularly from Rambara to Rudra Point, where six avalanches have become active, blocking the pathway.
Restoration Work Delayed Due to Snowfall
The revival of the old pedestrian route from Rambara to Garud Chatti has also been halted due to the intense snowfall. Workers engaged in the project have returned to Sonprayag for safety. Following the heavy snowfall on February 27 and 28, the Kedarnath region remains covered in a dense snow blanket.
Pathway Obstructed by Snow and Avalanches
The 16 km Gaurikund-Kedarnath route is piled with snow, especially around TFT Chatti, Hathni Gadhera, Kuber Gadhera, Bhairav Gadhera, and Rudra Point. Additionally, areas like Choti Lincholi and Badi Lincholi are reported to have over four feet of snow.
Uncertain Timeline for Pilgrimage Preparations
The commencement of preparations for the Kedarnath pilgrimage, scheduled to begin on May 2, now seems uncertain. Authorities have indicated that snow-clearing operations are unlikely to start before March. If weather conditions improve, the removal of snow may commence after March 20.
