To ensure peaceful conduct of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth has ordered a complete ban on the sale of meat and liquor in sensitive areas of Uttarakhand. The directive aims to prevent any potential disruption during the religious pilgrimage, which draws lakhs of devotees to the state annually.
Reviewing the security arrangements on Wednesday, the DGP instructed police officials to carry out their duties with dedication, vigilance, and a spirit of service. He emphasised the need for enhanced surveillance using drones and CCTV cameras, and mandated the deployment of personnel wearing body-worn cameras to improve transparency and accountability.
DGP Seth also stressed the importance of respectful behaviour towards pilgrims, especially at temples and Ganga ghats, where he called for heightened vigilance. Additionally, he directed the Social Media Monitoring Cell to become active immediately, ensuring swift action against any inflammatory posts that may incite tension.
The Kanwar Yatra is one of the largest annual religious gatherings in northern India, and Uttarakhand plays a key role in facilitating a smooth and secure experience for devotees en route to Haridwar and other spiritual destinations.
