Kedarnath Trek Route Reopens After Clearing 10 Feet of Snow

Rudraprayag: The Gaurikund-Kedarnath trek route has been reopened for movement after being blocked by an avalanche. Workers have cleared six to ten feet of snow, ensuring safe passage for horses and mules to resume transportation of essential supplies.

Snow Clearance Efforts

  • By Wednesday evening, workers cleared snow from Lincholi to Chhani Camp and further to Rudra Point, reaching Kedarnath.
  • 70 laborers from the Public Works Department (PWD) are working to restore the route, using soil and stones to secure slippery sections.

9 Km of Snow Cleared in 20 Days

  • The avalanche zone had 8-10 feet of snow, which has now been removed.
  • PWD Executive Engineer Vinay Jikwan confirmed that the route is now open for foot traffic.
  • In the next phase, snow clearance will focus on the Rudra Point to Helipad and Helipad to Temple areas.
  • MI-26 Helipad remains a priority, with full clearance expected by April 10.
