The Kedarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended on Friday morning after heavy boulders fell on the trekking route near Bhairavnath Temple in the Junglechatti area of Rudraprayag district. As a precautionary measure, the administration stopped pilgrims from proceeding beyond the Gaurikund entry point and advised them to return.
According to the district administration, heavy boulders crashed onto the trekking route on Thursday night following continuous rainfall, making the path unsafe for pilgrims. Acting on the Commissioner’s directions, authorities suspended the pilgrimage until the affected stretch is cleared and declared safe.
Teams from the police, District Disaster Response Force (DDRF), and other concerned departments have been deployed at the site. Restoration work, including the removal of boulders and assessment of the route, is underway while officials continue to monitor the situation.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that movement on the trekking route has been completely suspended in the interest of pilgrims’ safety. He added that the yatra will resume only after the route is inspected and certified safe by the authorities.
The administration has urged devotees to strictly follow official advisories and avoid travelling towards Kedarnath until further instructions are issued. Pilgrims have also been advised to stay updated through official communication before planning their journey.
