New Tehri: Panic spread in Genvli village of Bhilangana block after lightning struck the area on Thursday afternoon. Two women working in agricultural fields lost consciousness after coming in contact with the lightning, while several sheep and goats are feared dead near nearby shelters.

According to village head Deveshwari Devi, Rupa Devi (25), wife of Jaiveer Singh, and Babita (23), daughter of Sher Singh, were planting potatoes in the fields when sudden thunder and lightning struck the area. Both women collapsed unconscious in the field after the lightning strike. Villagers rushed to the spot and carried them to the road with the help of makeshift support before taking them to hospital for treatment.

Residents also reported that lightning struck near village shelters, raising fears that several sheep and goats present there may have died in the incident. Villagers have demanded assistance from the administration for the affected families.
