Prayagraj: Preparations for the Maha Kumbh 2025 are in full swing in Prayagraj, showcasing the city’s vibrant transformation. The administration and tourism department are jointly working on renovating ancient temples and ashrams, enhancing facilities like toilets, seating areas, pilgrim shelters, and improved flooring in temple complexes. Regional Tourism Secretary Aparajita Singh emphasized that these efforts aim to enrich the experience of pilgrims visiting during this grand spiritual event.
The Glory of Tirthraj Prayagraj
According to mythology, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj was the site of the first yajna performed by Lord Brahma, giving it the name “Prayag” (derived from “Pra” for first and “Yag” for yajna). During the yajna, Lord Vishnu protected the site in his twelve Madhav forms, collectively known as “Dwadash Madhav.” Renovation of these sacred temples is underway to allow pilgrims to visit and experience their divine significance during the Maha Kumbh.
Prayagraj holds the revered title of ‘Tirthraj,’ the King of Pilgrimage Sites. Scriptures like the Padma Purana exalt it as the holiest among all pilgrimage sites, while the Brahma Purana declares that a holy dip at the Sangam during the month of Magha equals the merit of performing millions of Ashwamedha yajnas.
A Spiritual and Architectural Splendor
Pilgrims attending Maha Kumbh 2025 will not only immerse themselves in the city’s profound spiritual aura but also witness the grandeur of Prayagraj’s restored temples and ashrams, embodying the timeless heritage of Tirthraj.
