MDDAs Crackdown on Illegal Madrasas Sparks Protests in Dehradun

The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) carried out an operation against illegal madrasas in Dehradun, leading to a strong protest from members of the Muslim community outside the District Magistrate’s office. In response to the escalating agitation, police detained several protesters.

Action Against Unauthorized Structures

According to MDDA officials, the targeted madrasas lacked the necessary building approvals, prompting the demolition. Authorities clarified that the action was part of an ongoing enforcement drive against unauthorized structures in the city.

Protesters accused the district administration of selective targeting, claiming the action was deliberately timed during the holy month of Ramadan. However, officials maintained that the operation was conducted lawfully, without any bias.
