Dehradun, 9 Nov: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Government of Uttarakhand for the acquisition of Naini Saini Airport located in Pithoragarh. This agreement marks a significant step toward ensuring accessible, safe, and sustainable air connectivity in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand.
The total area of Naini Saini Airport is approximately 70 acres. The terminal building is capable of serving 40 passengers during peak hours. Additionally, the apron is equipped to accommodate two aircraft (Code-2B) simultaneously.
This acquisition will lead to the upgradation of existing airport infrastructure, systematic management of operational standards, and substantial improvement in Uttarakhand’s regional connectivity.
The development of Naini Saini Airport will give new impetus to the state’s local art, cultural heritage, and tourism sector. It will open up new opportunities in trade, pilgrimage tourism, education, healthcare, and hospitality, thereby creating new avenues of employment for local youth.
This initiative will strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of accessible and sustainable aviation infrastructure and enhance disaster-response capabilities in this strategic Himalayan region.
The agreement will serve as a crucial milestone in propelling Uttarakhand towards new heights of development.
