A case has been registered against newly elected block chief Mahendra Dhek and nine of his supporters for allegedly attacking the family of a teachers’ union leader in Lohaghat’s Hathrangiya village.
According to the complaint filed by Bhagirathi Bohra, wife of Primary Teachers’ Association district president Govind Bohra, the incident took place on the night of August 14 around 11:25 pm. She alleged that Mahendra Dhek and his associates forcibly entered their house armed with weapons, threatened to kill the family, vandalized property, and created chaos. Bhagirathi, along with her husband and child, managed to escape.
Police were informed and reached the spot, after which the accused allegedly returned later at night and continued hurling abuses outside the house. Some of the accused were taken into custody. CCTV footage of the incident has been recovered.
An FIR has been filed against Mahendra Dhek, Devendra Bohra, Girish Thek, Dinesh Mehra, Satish Mehra, Girish Mehra, Nirmal Fartyal, Amit Fartyal, Shivraj Bohra, and Gautam Mehta under charges of rioting, unlawful entry, assault, intimidation, incitement, and vandalism. SHO Ashok Kumar confirmed that the matter is under investigation.
Sources suggest the attack stemmed from election rivalry, as Govind Bohra was accused of supporting an opposing candidate during the block chief polls, which angered Dhek’s faction.
