Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced an ambitious plan to make Delhi pollution-free within the next five years. To achieve this, he outlined investments worth ₹12,500 crore in upgrading the city’s transport infrastructure and mitigating pollution. Additionally, Gadkari committed an extra ₹1,200 crore through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF).
Delhi’s air quality has remained critically poor since November, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hovering around 350. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) is considering reimposing restrictions on BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel vehicles under its Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Vehicular emissions remain a major contributor to Delhi’s pollution crisis.
In the past two months, vehicle restrictions have been enforced twice in the city. Gadkari emphasized that enhancing Delhi’s transport infrastructure will help reduce congestion and emissions, contributing to long-term pollution control.
