The Dehradun-Delhi six-lane expressway will feature special non-scattering lights on its elevated road section to safeguard wildlife from light pollution. These lights will ensure that illumination is confined to the flyover, leaving the surrounding forest areas undisturbed.
After a three-month study, scientists from the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, recommended these lights. The expressway passes through Rajaji and Shivalik forest divisions, with a 12-km-long elevated road designed to allow vehicles to travel overhead while leaving wildlife pathways below unobstructed.
Additionally, sound barriers have been installed to minimize noise pollution. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to install 800 non-scattering lights, which aim to protect the environment while enhancing safety and visibility for drivers.
