Pithoragarh. A severe storm caused significant damage in the Ganai Gangoli area, where the roof of a forest department outpost at Tapovan was blown away on Monday evening. The forest officer present inside narrowly escaped the incident.
According to information, forest officer Shailesh Bam was inside the room when strong winds suddenly hit the area, blowing off the roof sheets. Stones from the walls also began to collapse inside the structure.
To save himself, the officer held onto a window and stood against the wall during the incident. Government property, including a laptop and other equipment kept in the office, was completely damaged in the debris.
After receiving information, staff members Ganesh Singh, Kamal Singh, and forest guard R.S. Rana reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation.

Officials said the officer and remaining items have been temporarily shifted to the Tapovan station. The incident has been reported to the tehsil administration and senior forest department officials. The damage has also raised concerns over the safety of the outpost building.
