Nainital – Panic gripped residents of the Krishnapur area after a massive boulder partially broke and rolled close to a residential zone, posing a serious threat. With no senior official reaching the site till afternoon, locals staged a protest, blocking the Haldwani road for around 15 minutes.
Residents said the boulder, which had remained a threat for years, broke and moved dangerously close to homes, damaging a car and two two-wheelers. The remaining portion continues to pose risk to the nearby population.
On Monday night, tehsil officials and police had shifted people from the danger zone to safer locations. Many residents spent the night at a nearby temple shelter after leaving their homes. Authorities had assured arrangements for food and basic needs.
However, by Tuesday morning, displaced residents alleged that no food or water had reached them, triggering anger. Locals gathered at the site and found no visible work underway to control the boulder, with only a patwari present.
After waiting for hours, residents blocked the main road in protest. Soon after, SDM Nawazish Khalik reached the spot and heard their concerns.
Locals demanded immediate work to secure the boulder, alternative road arrangements, and proper facilities for displaced families. The SDM assured that work would begin immediately and necessary arrangements would be made.

Following the assurance, the protest was called off, and the SDM conducted an inspection of the area.
