PM Modi In Manipur, Assures Support During First Visit After Violence

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur on Saturday, marking his first trip to the state since the outbreak of violence two years ago. In Churachandpur, he laid the foundation stone for several development projects and addressed a public gathering, assuring people that both he and the Government of India stand firmly with them.

PM Modi praised the spirit of the people of Manipur, noting their large turnout despite heavy rainfall. He recalled how, when bad weather grounded his helicopter, he traveled by road and was warmly welcomed by citizens waving the national flag. He expressed gratitude for the affection and respect shown to him, calling it unforgettable.

Highlighting the challenges faced by the state, the Prime Minister said that despite violence casting a shadow over this beautiful region, he saw hope and resilience among people in relief camps. He emphasized that peace is essential for progress and reminded that in the last decade, many conflicts in the Northeast were resolved through dialogue and cooperation. Modi urged all groups to choose the path of peace and development, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting Manipur’s aspirations.

The Prime Minister also called Manipur a land of courage and determination, describing its hills as both a natural treasure and a symbol of hard work. He noted that the name “Manipur” itself reflects the value of a “jewel” that will shine brightly across the Northeast. He further announced projects worth nearly ₹7,000 crore aimed at improving infrastructure and the lives of tribal communities in the region.
