Polyhouses to Be Installed in Uttarakhand with NABARD Support

Polyhouses will now be installed in both hilly and plain districts of Uttarakhand through NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development). The Horticulture Department has invited applications from farmers interested in availing this benefit. Once applications are received, the installation of polyhouses will begin at the district level.

Due to increasing threats from wild animals and stray cattle damaging crops in open fields, farmers are shifting towards cultivating vegetables and plants inside polyhouses. Until now, polyhouses were installed under the state scheme, but the new initiative will cover the entire state through NABARD’s support.

Under this scheme, 80% subsidy is being offered for constructing 50-square-meter polyhouses, for which the farmer will have to deposit ₹19,964 into the department’s account. For 100-square-meter polyhouses, the required farmer contribution is ₹36,608. Crops like okra, cabbage, peas, spinach, radish, turnip, green chili, and capsicum can be grown inside these structures, along with off-season vegetables.

The scheme is applicable to both mountainous and plain areas of the state. Nidhi Rathore, Horticulture Mobile In-charge at Dhalwala, informed that applications are currently being accepted and 50 and 100-square-meter polyhouses will be provided with 80% subsidy through NABARD.
