In a notable outcome of the panchayat elections, 21-year-old Priyanka Negi has been elected as the new Pradhan of Sarkot village, the model village declared by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Priyanka, who holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Gairsain College, defeated her opponent Priyanka Devi by securing 421 votes against 235.
Sarkot village, located in the Karnaprayag-Gairsain development block, is one of the largest villages in Chamoli district, with over 300 families currently residing there. Due to zero migration from the area, CM Dhami had declared it a model village during a legislative session in Bhararisain, and since then, several development initiatives have been launched.
Under CM Dhami’s direction, the village has seen uniform house painting, promotion of mushroom cultivation, health camps, and growth in animal husbandry and agriculture. Regular awareness camps are also being organized by officials to engage the community.
Newly elected Pradhan Priyanka Negi has pledged to further these development efforts, focusing particularly on women’s empowerment in the village. Her father, former Pradhan Rajey Singh Negi, expressed full support for his daughter and reaffirmed their commitment to Sarkot’s progress.
