Rahul Gandhi vs Election Commission: Allegations of ‘Institutional Vote Theft’ Spark Controversy

Ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BJP. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Rahul accused the two of working together to “steal elections” in India, calling the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list an act of “institutionalised theft.”

Rahul alleged that the SIR process is aimed at stripping the poor of their right to vote. “The truth is that BJP and the Election Commission are stealing elections together. We’ve caught their theft. That’s why the SIR has been brought in,” he said.

He further claimed that if BJP had 10–15 fewer seats in the last general elections, Narendra Modi wouldn’t have become Prime Minister again, and the INDIA alliance would be in power.

No Data from ECI, Claims Rahul

Rahul stated that he and his team had requested voter list and polling booth video footage from the Election Commission but received no response. “This silence only deepens suspicion that the Election Commission is working in collaboration with the BJP,” he said.

Sharing his video on social media platform X, he wrote: “Vote theft is not just electoral fraud — it’s a grave crime against the Constitution and democracy. The guilty should know, time will change, justice will be served.”

Allegations Based on Karnataka Data

Rahul backed his claims with data from Karnataka’s Mahadevapura Assembly segment under Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency, alleging that 1,00,250 votes were manipulated there through five different methods:

  • 11,965 duplicate voters
  • 40,009 voters with fake or incorrect addresses
  • 10,452 voters registered at the same address
  • 4,132 voters with wrong photographs
  • 33,692 irregularities in Form-6 applications

He also cited examples like ‘Gurkirat Singh Dang,’ who was allegedly listed on four different booths, and mentioned cases where voters were registered in two different states or under nonexistent addresses like “House No. 0” or where 80 people were listed under a single address.

ECI Responds, Seeks Proof

In response to Rahul’s serious allegations, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka requested that he submit names and voter details along with a signed declaration for further investigation and appropriate action.

“Election Commission is Guilty of Treason”: Rahul’s Direct Warning

Rahul intensified his rhetoric by accusing the Election Commission of committing treason. “What the ECI is doing is anti-national. A time will come when we will hold them accountable,” he warned.

He said that while his team only examined voter additions, the number of voter deletions could be even higher. He also questioned why election outcomes often contradict public sentiment. Referring to states like Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, he claimed that “miraculous voters” suddenly appeared in voter lists between Lok Sabha and Assembly elections — all seemingly benefitting the BJP.
