Elon Musk Questions H-1B Visa Program, Calls for Overhaul

Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has raised questions about the H-1B visa program, describing it as disorganized and calling for significant reforms. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk suggested measures like increasing minimum wages and adding annual costs to make hiring from abroad more expensive, thereby encouraging domestic talent development.

Last week, Musk highlighted the shortage of highly skilled workers in the U.S. and emphasized the importance of attracting skilled foreign professionals for the country’s progress. Indian-American leader Vivek Ramaswamy supported Musk, stating that while America often values mediocrity, competing with nations like China requires the recruitment of extraordinary talent.

The H-1B visa debate resurfaced recently when Donald Trump appointed Indian-origin Sriram Krishnan as an AI advisor. Trump’s hardline supporters criticized this move, claiming it contradicted his immigration policies. Figures like Laura Loomer condemned Krishnan’s pro-visa statements. Musk, however, warned that the lack of top engineering talent in the U.S. could harm Silicon Valley’s growth.
