Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that the Modi government is working on a uniform toll policy to ease the burden on travelers using national highways. The government plans to implement a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based toll collection system, which will streamline toll payments and reduce wait times at toll plazas.
Gadkari acknowledged the growing discontent on social media regarding toll collection but assured that a solution is in progress. He noted that India’s national highway network spans 1,46,195 km, and toll collection for 2023-24 reached ₹64,809 crore, marking a 35% increase from the previous year.
Additionally, he revealed that the Yamuna River in Delhi could be developed as a seaplane landing strip, similar to the Sabarmati project in Gujarat.
