Roorkee: Speeding Scorpio Ploughs Into Crowd in Piran Kaliyar, Two Girls Critically Injured

Roorkee: A speeding Scorpio SUV created panic in Piran Kaliyar on Sunday night after it allegedly lost control and rammed into people standing along a busy roadside, leaving several injured, including two young girls in critical condition.

The incident occurred on Abdal Shah Road near Imli Khera Road, where a Uttar Pradesh-registered Scorpio reportedly entered a crowded area at high speed. According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove straight into pedestrians before fleeing the scene.

Three people sustained serious injuries in the accident, including Mukhtar Alam, a resident of Bihar, six-year-old Sabrin, and ten-year-old Shabnam, both residents of Piran Kaliyar. All injured persons were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Chaos at the accident site

The collision triggered chaos in the area, with screams and panic spreading among residents and shopkeepers. Local people immediately rushed to help the victims and shifted them to hospital while traffic movement remained disrupted for some time.

Eyewitnesses claimed the vehicle was moving at such a high speed that people had little chance to react or move out of its path.

Driver absconds after accident

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated rescue and investigation efforts. The damaged Scorpio has been seized, but the driver reportedly fled immediately after the accident.

Officials said CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined to identify and trace the accused driver. A search operation is underway, and further legal action will be taken once the driver is apprehended.

Questions raised over reckless driving

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over overspeeding in the region. Residents alleged that reckless driving has become increasingly common on local roads, posing a constant threat to pedestrians and commuters.
