In a major success against militancy, the Indian Army’s 2 Rajput unit, in collaboration with Handwara Police, conducted a search operation on Saturday morning in the dense forests near Drud in Hafruda, Kupwara district. The joint forces discovered and dismantled a terrorist hideout, recovering a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher, AK-47 and pistol ammunition, along with various food supplies. Sources said the operation thwarted attempts to disturb peace in the area, crediting it to the relentless efforts of security forces in countering terrorism. The hideout was built deep inside the forest, and no casualties were reported in this operation. Both the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the region and its residents.
Meanwhile, in Kishtwar’s Dool area, security forces have cornered terrorists, and intermittent gunfire is being reported as part of an ongoing anti-terror operation, according to the Army’s White Knight Corps. In another prolonged anti-terror mission in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, the Akhal operation entered its ninth day on Saturday, with heavy gunfire through the night. During the encounter, two soldiers were martyred and two others injured.
Security forces remain engaged in flushing out terrorists from the Akhal forest area, with senior Army and police officials closely monitoring the operation round the clock. Chinar Corps, which commands Army operations in the Kashmir Valley, confirmed the loss of two soldiers and paid tribute to them on X, stating that the mission remains in progress.
