Haridwar – A violent clash between two groups in Jat Bahadurpur village under Pathri police station on Sunday night resulted in the fatal shooting of a youth, leading to unrest in the area. On Monday, Bhim Army members, villagers, and the victim’s family staged a four-hour protest, demanding the arrest of the accused. A long-standing rivalry existed between former village head Vikas Kumar and Jatin Chaudhary. The conflict escalated near Ekkad railway station, leading to a physical altercation and multiple rounds of gunfire. Rajan, from Vikas Kumar’s group, was shot dead on the spot, while Jatin Chaudhary sustained injuries and was initially taken to Meerut. However, police intercepted the vehicle at the Narsan border and redirected him to AIIMS Rishikesh.
During Rajan’s postmortem, Bhim Army members, BSP workers, and villagers staged a protest at the district hospital, demanding immediate arrests. After assurances from police officials, the body was transported to the village, where another protest erupted at the Ravidas temple complex.
As tensions escalated, heavy police force, including PAC personnel, was deployed. Senior officers, including SP City Pankaj Garola and SP Rural Shekhar Suyal, assured villagers that all accused would be arrested within 36 hours. Following this, the protesters agreed to perform the last rites.
The cremation was conducted under strict security measures. Authorities continue efforts to maintain order in the village.
