Pithampur: Residents of Tarapur village in Madhya Pradesh’s Pithampur turned violent on Saturday over the disposal of 337 tons of toxic waste stored at Ramky Company. Protesters gathered at the company’s gate, chanting slogans, pelting stones, and vandalizing a police vehicle. They even threw pepper powder at the police officers deployed for security.
To control the escalating situation, police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas shelling, eventually dispersing the crowd. Following the incident, the factory area has been transformed into a heavily guarded zone, with plain-clothes officers stationed nearby for added security.
The villagers allege that the disposal of toxic waste has already begun. A rumor about one missing container out of the 12 transported from Bhopal to Indore further fueled tensions. However, Deputy Tehsildar Anita Baretha clarified that all containers are intact and none have been opened.
In response, the police have barricaded all roads leading to the Ramky Company, ensuring strict measures to maintain law and order.
