Two Meerut tourists swept away while bathing in Ganga near Rishikesh, SDRF launches search

Rishikesh – Two tourists from Meerut, including a woman, were swept away by the strong current of the Ganga while bathing near Singtali Bridge in the Laxman Jhula area on Thursday. SDRF teams have launched a search operation to trace the missing tourists.

SDRF Inspector Kavindra Sajwan said six employees of a Hyundai showroom in Meerut had come to Rishikesh for an outing on their day off. The group had gone to the Ganga near Singtali Bridge for bathing when the incident occurred.

During the bath, a woman and a man reportedly lost their balance and were carried away by the river’s strong flow. The incident triggered panic among the other members of the group.

After receiving information, SDRF teams from Dhalwala and Byasi rushed to the spot and began an intensive search operation. Despite continuous efforts, no trace of the missing tourists had been found till late evening.

The missing persons have been identified as Ritu (30), wife of Vanshik Maheshwari, a resident of Meerut, and Naresh Upadhyay (42), a resident of Jagethi village under Kankerkhera police station in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Police and SDRF personnel are continuing the search operation in the area.
