UCC: Marriage and Live-in Relationship Registration Mandatory

Under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implemented in Uttarakhand, registration of marriages and live-in relationships is now mandatory in municipal bodies and gram panchayats instead of registration offices. Live-in relationships have been granted legal recognition, but couples must register their relationship under the new law. Marriage registration is also compulsory for couples married after May 26, 2010.

New Registration Process

  • In urban areas, registration will be handled by municipal bodies.
  • In rural areas, the Gram Vikas Adhikari will manage the process.

16-Page Form for Live-in Relationships

  • Couples must fill out a 16-page form and pay a registration fee.
  • They must declare eligibility for future marriage.
  • Disclosure of previous live-in relationships is mandatory.
