With the Char Dham Yatra approaching, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) remains without a chairperson. The state government has yet to appoint a new leader after the term of the previous chairperson, Ajendra Ajay, ended on January 7. Despite the committee overseeing the management of 47 temples, including the revered Badrinath and Kedarnath, preparations for the pilgrimage are proceeding without leadership.
Challenges Without a Chairperson
The BKTC typically holds a board meeting before the Yatra to finalize key decisions regarding pilgrim management, temple rituals, and logistics. However, the absence of a chairperson has stalled this critical process. The Char Dham Yatra is set to commence on April 30, adding urgency to the situation.
Political Speculations
Established in 1939 during the British era, the BKTC chairperson is appointed by the state government. Several BJP leaders are reportedly in contention for the role, with the final decision resting with the Chief Minister. Until then, the committee’s operations will continue under interim management.
