Uttarakhand Gears Up for International Yoga Day, Over 62,000 People Join Campaign

Preparations for the 12th International Yoga Day have intensified across Uttarakhand, with the Ayush and Ayush Education Department conducting a large-scale awareness campaign throughout the state. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” is being promoted through a series of activities in all districts. According to the department, more than 2,800 yoga-related events have already been organised across Uttarakhand, with over 62,000 people participating in yoga sessions and awareness programmes.

In coordination with district administrations, regular yoga sessions are being conducted in schools, universities, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, public spaces, parks and government offices. Special “Namaste-Yoga” workshops are also being organised for government employees to encourage workplace wellness.

The campaign has expanded to include dedicated yoga programmes for personnel of ITBP, police forces, corporate organisations and persons with disabilities. Under the “Harit Yoga” initiative, yoga sessions are being held at prominent trekking routes, scenic natural locations, Amrit Sarovars and along the banks of the Ganga to connect people with both nature and wellness.

To further increase public participation, “Run for Yoga” events will be organised in all districts from June 15 onwards. On June 21, International Yoga Day will be celebrated through large-scale programmes across Uttarakhand, with participation from citizens, public representatives, legislators and administrative officials.

A state-level event is also being planned, where the Chief Minister will attend as the chief guest. The process of selecting a suitable venue for the programme is currently underway.

The department is also leveraging digital platforms to strengthen the campaign. Through the Yogapath app, participants can share photos and videos of their yoga practice using a special Ayush-themed frame. Meanwhile, the Yoga Wall portal is showcasing photographs and videos from yoga events being held across the state.
