Bageshwar – A woman was injured in a leopard attack in Bageshwar’s Chhanapani area after she tried to save her goat from being taken by the wild animal. The incident has once again raised concerns among residents over increasing leopard movement near villages.
According to local residents, 40-year-old Hema Devi, wife of Bache Singh and a resident of Chhanapani, noticed a leopard attacking her goat near her house. She rushed to protect the animal, but during the incident, the leopard attacked and she also lost her balance, resulting in serious injuries.
The leopard managed to drag away the goat and disappeared into the nearby forest. Family members and villagers immediately rushed Hema Devi to the district hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Doctors said she suffered a serious leg injury and remains under medical observation.
The incident has triggered fear and anger among residents, who claim leopard sightings and wildlife movement have increased in the area in recent months. Villagers alleged that concerns had been repeatedly raised with the forest department, but no effective preventive measures were taken.\
Local residents have demanded compensation for the affected family, increased patrolling in the area, and immediate installation of a cage to capture the leopard. Range Officer Shyam Singh Karayat said the matter is being investigated and compensation will be provided to the injured woman based on the medical report.
