Uttarakhand: Inter-district Teacher Transfers Halted, Government to Issue Fresh SOP

In Uttarakhand, inter-district transfers of assistant teachers (LT grade) will not take place this year. Education Secretary Ravinath Raman stated that the decision was made considering the upcoming Uttarakhand Board examinations. The government will now issue a fresh Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and invite new applications from teachers.

Earlier, the Education Department had invited applications for inter-district transfers, but concerns over violations of transfer norms and potential legal disputes led to the process being halted. Officials feared that such violations could increase court cases. Moreover, transfers during the exam period could disrupt administrative operations.

Previously, Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat had instructed the department to complete the transfers within ten days. However, the department decided to defer the process. Additionally, a four-member committee has been formed to resolve seniority disputes related to teacher promotions.

Disappointed by the delay, teachers recently staged a protest in Dehradun. The Provincial President of the State Teachers’ Union, Ram Singh Chauhan, and General Secretary Ramesh Painyuli demanded the swift resumption of transfers.
