Uttarkashi : A vigilance team from Dehradun arrested an Ameen of the Public Works Department (PWD), Bhatwari division, in Uttarkashi while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. The arrest was made at the PWD’s camp office located at the district headquarters, causing panic among staff present at the office.
According to information received, the vigilance department had received a complaint from a local resident alleging that the Ameen had demanded a bribe in exchange for processing compensation related to land affected by road cutting during construction work. Acting on the complaint, the vigilance team laid a trap to catch the official red-handed.
On Wednesday morning, the complainant reached the PWD camp office as per the instructions of the vigilance team and handed over the bribe amount. As soon as the Ameen accepted the money, vigilance officials apprehended him on the spot. The action led to commotion in the office, and several employees were seen leaving the premises.
Sources said the vigilance team included three inspectors along with 10 to 11 other officials. The team is currently questioning both the complainant and the arrested Ameen at the office itself. After the completion of the inquiry, the accused will be taken to the vigilance headquarters in Dehradun for further legal proceedings.
