Villagers Protest Poor Road Condition in Gairsain, Label It ‘Death Road’

Chamoli- Residents of Tentuda and Naini villages in Gairsain, Uttarakhand, staged a unique protest against the deteriorating condition of a recently constructed road. The villagers put up banners labeling it as a ‘Death Road,’ criticizing the poor construction quality and demanding immediate repairs.

Road Deteriorates Within Months of Completion

The 3.40 km-long road was built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) by the construction agency Bridcul at a cost of ₹199.75 lakh. Construction began on October 1, 2021, and was completed by March 31, 2022. However, within a short time, the road started developing cracks, the asphalt began peeling off, and retaining walls collapsed.

Despite repeated complaints to the CM Helpline, no significant action has been taken. Former village head Gajendra Singh, along with locals like Yashwant Singh, Indra Singh Kandari, and Mahila Mangal Dal president Hansi Rawat, voiced concerns about the poor quality of work.
