Rishikesh – On the occasion of World Sleep Day, AIIMS Rishikesh organized an awareness program emphasizing the importance of good sleep for overall health. Experts advised avoiding excessive use of mobile phones and social media to maintain a healthy sleep cycle.
The event was held under the joint supervision of the departments of Psychiatry, Pulmonary Medicine, and the College of Nursing. Nursing students presented a street play in the OPD area, highlighting the benefits of quality sleep and its impact on health.
AIIMS Rishikesh Executive Director Professor (Dr.) Meenu Singh guided the event. Speakers, including Dean Academic Professor Jaya Chaturvedi, Medical Superintendent Professor Satya Shri, Head of Psychiatry Department Professor Anindya Das, Professor Ravi Gupta, Dr. Lokesh Kumar, Pulmonary Department Head Professor Girish Sindhwani, College of Nursing Principal Professor Smriti Arora, and Dr. Rakesh Sharma, addressed the audience.
Experts warned that untreated sleep disorders could lead to severe health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, and depression. AIIMS Rishikesh also operates a specialized Sleep Clinic every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, equipped with a Sleep Laboratory to diagnose and treat sleep-related conditions.
