The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will be honored with the Prime Minister’s Award (PM Award) for outstanding use of solar energy and effective implementation of welfare schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The award ceremony will take place in April in Delhi.
As part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the state government has utilized solar energy to ensure uninterrupted and energy-efficient water supply in rural areas. 33,229 projects have been solar-powered, resulting in savings of nearly ₹1 lakh crore and reducing 13 lakh metric tons of carbon emissions annually. This initiative not only promotes environmental conservation but has also been recognized by the central government as a “best practice.”
According to Anurag Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary of Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department, the initiative is expected to generate 390 lakh carbon credits over the next 30 years.
Additionally, Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani will receive the PM Award for her impactful implementation of development and welfare schemes, which have fostered community participation and innovation-led growth in the district.
