The protest against a proposed liquor shop in Mangoli and Bajoon areas of Nainital has intensified, entering its sixth day on Friday. Women leading the agitation continued their hunger strike, while a large number of villagers gathered in support.

Village heads Prema Mehra from Adhauda (Bajoon), Hemlata Dhayani from Khamari (Mangoli), and Khushal from Jalal village have joined the hunger strike. Block Pramukh Dr. Harish Bisht also reached the protest site and extended support to the आंदोलन led by women.

Protesters have made it clear that they will not call off the agitation until the administration issues written orders cancelling the proposed liquor shops. The movement began on Sunday with demonstrations in Mangoli and gradually intensified, including road blockades and sit-in protests in Bajoon.

Villagers had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Kumaon Commissioner, and Member of Parliament Ajay Bhatt also wrote to the Chief Minister, demanding that the liquor shop not be opened in the area. However, with no concrete assurance from authorities, the protest escalated further.

On Friday, women continued their demonstration using posters and slogans. Locals expressed concern that opening a liquor shop in a residential area would disturb the social environment and negatively impact the youth.
