A sudden surge of residents gathered outside an Indian Gas Agency in Ghansali, Tehri Garhwal, late at night after reports of LPG shortage spread across the area. Long queues formed as consumers rushed to secure cooking gas cylinders, leading to chaotic scenes and public unrest.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ghansali, Alkesh Naudiyal, reached the spot after receiving information about the situation. He assessed the ground reality and instructed people to return home, assuring them that there was no need for panic. He clarified that only consumers with prior bookings would receive cylinders.
Local social worker Vinod Lal stated that gas supply had not reached the area for the past five days, which triggered anxiety among residents. Anticipating the arrival of a supply vehicle in the morning, people began lining up during the night itself to avoid missing out.
Officials said that the crowd buildup was largely driven by misinformation regarding distribution. The administration reiterated that cylinder delivery would be carried out strictly for registered bookings and as per a roster system in rural areas.
