A recent Uttarakhand survey conducted by the Women Empowerment and Child Development Department has revealed alarming conditions of elderly women across the state. The report shows that more than 1.34 lakh elderly women require support from the government in various forms.
According to the Uttarakhand survey, a large number of women are struggling with basic needs in both rural and urban areas. The data highlights that 61,258 elderly women need financial assistance, which is the highest among all categories. Additionally, 27,125 women require nutrition support, while 11,960 need food assistance.
The survey further reveals that 23,643 elderly women are in need of healthcare services, and 6,474 require housing support. Around 4,330 women have expressed concerns related to safety at this stage of life. These figures underline the challenges faced by elderly women in the state.
Another key finding of the Uttarakhand survey is that 33,722 elderly women are not receiving any kind of pension. Among those who are beneficiaries, 71,397 women receive old-age pension, 27,896 receive widow pension, 1,339 receive disability pension, and 456 women are covered under destitute pension schemes.
The survey was carried out by Anganwadi workers across the state to assess ground realities. Based on these findings, the department plans to link eligible beneficiaries with government schemes. Officials said efforts will be made to provide financial aid, healthcare, nutrition, housing, and safety support to improve their living conditions.

Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya stated that the government will use the survey data to identify real needs and ensure that elderly women receive proper assistance, aiming to improve their quality of life.
