A major accident was averted in Haridwar after 21 people stranded on river islands were rescued safely following a sudden rise in the Ganga water level. The incident took place at Sapt Rishi Ghat and Kabir Kutir area on Sunday.
According to officials, the Haridwar rescue operation began after the control room received information around 10:40 AM about people getting trapped due to rising water levels. Teams from water police, PAC, flood units, and disaster management were immediately deployed to the spot.
During the Haridwar rescue operation, authorities found that several people who had gone to bathe in the river were stranded on small islands as the water level increased rapidly. Strong currents made it difficult for them to return to the shore.
Rescue teams acted swiftly and managed to evacuate all stranded individuals using boats and safety equipment. A total of 21 people, including 10 men, 7 women, and 4 children, were brought back safely. All rescued individuals are residents of Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. The timely response by the administration and police prevented a potential tragedy.
