Dehradun: Uttarakhand has recorded significant growth in the solar energy sector, with the state’s solar power capacity increasing tenfold over the last two years. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the achievement during the launch of a solar awareness booklet prepared by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office in Dehradun.

The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand has successfully installed nearly 290 MW of residential rooftop solar capacity, marking a major step towards energy self-reliance. He described the achievement as a milestone in the state’s efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy.

According to Dhami, the state had set an initial target of installing 40,000 rooftop solar systems and has already completed around 95 percent of the work ahead of schedule. He said the effective implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana has helped Uttarakhand emerge among the leading states in the country in rooftop solar adoption.

The Chief Minister appreciated the coordinated efforts of UPCL, UREDA, regional officials and other departments associated with the campaign. He said the success reflects the collective commitment of Team Uttarakhand towards expanding renewable energy infrastructure.

Dhami stated that the government’s objective is not limited to installing solar panels but also to make citizens active participants in the clean energy movement. He noted that wider use of solar energy will reduce electricity expenses for households, strengthen environmental conservation efforts and contribute to a greener future.

He also said that climate change, energy security and environmental challenges have made renewable energy more important than ever. Solar power, he added, is no longer just an alternative but a necessity for ensuring a sustainable future for coming generations.

The Chief Minister credited the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana for helping the state achieve notable progress. He also praised awareness initiatives such as Solar Kauthig, street plays and training programmes that have encouraged people to adopt solar energy.
